Paolo Israel is a doctoral student of the EHESS (Paris). He is currently doing a doctorate on Makonde masquerades in northern Mozambique with the working title of ‘Kupanga mapiko: Création, révolution, historicité’, and has carried out intensive fieldwork in the region between 2002 and 2005. He has also worked and published on traditional Italian storytelling and linguistic anthropology.
